Stopwatch
Start, stop and record laps, to a hundredth of a second.
00:00.00
Keys: Space to start or stop, L for a lap, R to reset.
How it works
Timing with laps
Press Start to begin and Stop to pause. Pressing Start again continues from where you stopped, so you can leave out breaks. While it runs, press Lap to record a split without stopping the clock: useful for running laps, swimming lengths, rounds of an exercise or steps in a process.
Want to count down from a set time instead? Use the online timer or the Pomodoro timer.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the stopwatch?
It measures time with your browser’s high-resolution clock and shows hundredths of a second. The clock itself is far more precise than that; in practice, the limit is human reaction time, which is typically around a fifth of a second.
What is the difference between lap time and total time?
The lap time is how long that one lap took, from the previous lap (or the start) to when you pressed Lap. The total is the time on the stopwatch at that moment. The fastest and slowest laps are marked.
Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes: Space starts and stops, L records a lap and R resets while stopped. If a button is selected, Space presses that button instead.
Does it keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The stopwatch measures elapsed time rather than counting ticks, so it stays correct in the background and even if your computer is slow.
