What fits into 2 minutes?
Two minutes is how long dentists recommend brushing your teeth, and the heart of a well-known productivity rule.
- Brushing your teeth for the full two minutes
- The two-minute rule: if a task takes less than two minutes, do it right away
- Steeping green tea, which needs about 2–3 minutes
- Short stretching or plank sets
- Rounds in charades and drawing games
Press Start and the countdown begins. You can pause, add a minute or reset at any time, and an alarm sounds when time is up. Need another length? Choose a quick-start time or enter your own; the online timer also takes any time up to 99 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I brush my teeth?
Two minutes, twice a day, is what dental associations such as the American Dental Association recommend. An easy way to split it up is 30 seconds for each quarter of your mouth.
What is the two-minute rule?
A habit from David Allen’s productivity method Getting Things Done: if something takes less than two minutes, do it now instead of putting it on a list. A timer shows how much really fits into two minutes.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.
Why is there no sound?
Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
