What fits into 3 minutes?
Three minutes is the length of a boxing round, and about right for a cup of black tea.
- Steeping black tea, which takes about 3–5 minutes
- A round of boxing or sparring practice
- Instant noodles, which usually need about three minutes
- A short breathing or meditation break
- Quick-fire tasks in a classroom
Press Start and the countdown begins. You can pause, add a minute or reset at any time, and an alarm sounds when time is up. Need another length? Choose a quick-start time or enter your own; the online timer also takes any time up to 99 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I steep tea?
As a rule of thumb: green tea 2–3 minutes, black tea 3–5 minutes and herbal tea 5–7 minutes. Blends differ, so check the packet.
How long is a boxing round?
Professional boxing rounds last three minutes, with a one-minute break between rounds. Run this timer for the round, then a 1 minute timer for the rest.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.
Why is there no sound?
Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
