Frequently asked questions
What is the 20-20-20 rule?
A simple habit against eye strain from screens, recommended by eye care organizations such as the American Optometric Association: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet (6 meters) away for at least 20 seconds.
Why not nap longer than 20 minutes?
After about 20 minutes you are more likely to slip into deep sleep, and waking up from it can leave you groggy. If you need more rest, a full sleep cycle of around 90 minutes is the usual alternative.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.
Why is there no sound?
Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
