What fits into 5 minutes?
Five minutes is the classic short break: long enough to reset, short enough to get straight back to work.
- The short break between Pomodoro focus sessions
- A quick tidy-up or inbox sweep
- A five-minute meditation
- Classroom tasks and transitions
- Letting meat rest after cooking
Press Start and the countdown begins. You can pause, add a minute or reset at any time, and an alarm sounds when time is up. Need another length? Choose a quick-start time or enter your own; the online timer also takes any time up to 99 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a short break be?
In the Pomodoro Technique, a short break lasts five minutes and follows every 25-minute focus session. Stand up, stretch or look out of a window rather than at another screen.
Can I use it as a classroom timer?
Yes. The large numbers are easy to read on a projector or smartboard, the alarm tells everyone when time is up, and pupils can see a progress bar fill up as time passes.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.
Why is there no sound?
Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
