Ideas

What fits into 30 minutes?

Half an hour is long enough for real progress and short enough to start right away.

  • A study or homework session
  • Half-hour meetings and calls
  • A 30-minute workout or walk
  • Letting dough rise (check your recipe)
  • Screen time and gaming limits for children

Press Start and the countdown begins. You can pause, add a minute or reset at any time, and an alarm sounds when time is up. Need another length? Choose a quick-start time or enter your own; the online timer also takes any time up to 99 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pause the timer?

Yes. Press Pause, or Space on a keyboard, to stop the countdown, and Resume to continue where you left off.

Is 30 minutes a good length for studying?

For many people, yes. Blocks of 25 to 30 minutes with short breaks in between help keep concentration up over a longer study day.

Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?

Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.

Why is there no sound?

Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
