What fits into 30 seconds?
Thirty seconds goes by fast, which makes it the classic length for short, intense efforts and quick turns in games.
- Plank and wall-sit holds when you are starting out
- Speed rounds in quiz and party games
- Rest between sets in interval training
- Practising a 30-second elevator pitch
- Hand washing: health authorities recommend scrubbing for at least 20 seconds
Press Start and the countdown begins. You can pause, add a minute or reset at any time, and an alarm sounds when time is up. Need another length? Choose a quick-start time or enter your own; the online timer also takes any time up to 99 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How do I run the 30 seconds again?
When time is up, press Restart, or Space on a keyboard, to run the same 30 seconds again. That makes it easy to do several rounds in a row, such as planks with a rest in between.
Is the timer accurate to the second?
Yes. It counts from your device’s clock instead of counting ticks, so it doesn’t drift, even in a background tab. The display rounds up, so it only shows 00:00 when the time is really up.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer keeps running in the background and the alarm plays when time is up, as long as the tab stays open and your device isn’t muted. The time left is also shown in the tab’s title.
Why is there no sound?
Check that "Alarm sound" is on, that your device isn’t muted, and on iPhone that the silent switch is off. Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked something on the page, so start the timer with a click or a key press.
